Dallas ISD due for gargantuan loss to charter schools coming to area per new report. The exact loss is not known yet, but could be as high as $100M in lost revenue.
Per a report on former School Board of Trustee’s candidate Lori Kirkpatrick’s blog the schools would be coming in South Dallas from Waxahachie Faith Family Academy Charter (FFA) and Uplift Education Charter Schools.
This is concerning because Uplift Wisdom Prep, located at 301 W. Camp Wisdom Road, is only C rated and was an Improvement Required campus the prior year under the name Pinnacle (State ID# 57803015). It would be less than five minutes away from B rated DISD campus at Umphrey Lee Elementary School.
Charter Schools
Waxahachie FFA does not inform parents on its website that it is evaluated under alternative education accountability (AEA) provisions. Campuses and districts that register under AEA provisions meet significantly lower accountability standards than most Dallas ISD schools and districts. These lower standards make it easier to perform higher though their performance is still not stellar against lower standards.
Due to COVID19, Texas faces a dire budget situation. All available state funds should be used to support existing public schools meet current challenges and ensure that Texas can keep the promises made in HB 3.
The Texas budget situation is likely to also impact plans for a Bond package which Dallas ISD is likely not to have revenue to support. Additionally, Dallas ISD has still not answered questions from its Auditor report. These questions have not gone away simply because COVID19 has closed schools and elections have been moved to November.
